The EuroFIR thesauri

The proposal for structure and detail of a EuroFIR standard on food composition data (PDF - 4.4 MB) makes use of eight thesauri (i.e. controlled vocabularies) for the description of the value of a component in a given food. The thesauri follow international standards on multilingual thesauri, which secure international development and use of the thesauri. (The description of the food is regulated through the LanguaL Thesaurus).

EuroFIR thesauri access

The released as well as working version of the eight EuroFIR thesauri are held online in the EuroFIR eThesaurus (username:  eThesaurusGuest, password: guest$Welcome). In general, the current release is V1.1, but for the Component Thesaurus it is version 1.2.  eThesaurus also holds working copies that will be released later as V1.3.

Different formats/display are available for use in electronic tools:

  • Systematic display (tree view): tab delimited file listing the thesaurus' descriptors systematically according to their place in the thesaurus hierarchy.
  • Alpha-numerical display: tab-delimited text file listing the thesaurus according to the alphanumerical descriptor code. The first line in the tab-delimited file is the root of the thesaurus and indicates the thesaurus name and version.
  • Alphabetical display: thesaurus descriptors and synonyms listed in alphabetical order for printed documentation.
  • Thesaurus in XML-format
