
﻿{"id":58,"date":"2015-03-02T14:58:06","date_gmt":"2015-03-02T13:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bacchus.jeproduction.com\/?page_id=58"},"modified":"2018-06-18T10:58:38","modified_gmt":"2018-06-18T09:58:38","slug":"resources","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.eurofir.org\/bacchus\/resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>BACCHUS Toolkit: Helping SMEs and researchers submit better health claim dossiers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The main objective of BACCHUS is to develop tools and resources to help\u00a0facilitate generation of robust and exploitable scientific evidence that can be used to support claims of a cause and effect relationship between consumption of bioactive peptides and polyphenols, and beneficial physiological effects related to cardiovascular health in humans.<\/p>\n<p>The toolkit is comprised of guidelines and other resources to help SMEs and researchers develop health claim dossiers. Currently, it includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1609 size-thumbnail\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/03\/Fotolia_63303552_XS-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"e-learning\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bacchus-fp7.eu\/e-Learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">e-Learning platform<\/a>:<\/strong> dissemination of project research and information to project partners including SMEs, some of which is available more widely (publicly accessible).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Best practice guidelines for health claims dossiers<\/strong>, which\u00a0provides information to aid understanding and facilitate health claims dossier applications including design of human dietary intervention\u00a0protocols<\/li>\n<li><strong>eBASIS: <\/strong>the food bioactives database covering composition and biological effects of bioactive compounds<\/li>\n<li><strong>eBASIS-Creme Global interface\u00a0<\/strong>for assessment of intake exposure<\/li>\n<li>BACCHUS publications<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. BACCHUS Best practice guidelines\u00a0for health claims<\/strong> has been developed to both highlight and summarise the key considerations derived from the relevant official regulations and guidance documents <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1610 size-thumbnail\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/03\/Fotolia_86840042_M-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>on Nutrition and Health Claims, increasing the accessibility and usability of this information. In addition, these guidelines\u00a0provides specific insights and outcomes of assessments of polyphenols, bioactive peptides and cardiovascular health claims applications by European Food Safety Authority and subsequent approval or rejection by the European Commission. It is hoped that this document will be a useful resource for those hoping to gain approval for a health claim on a product, for those in research and for others with an interest in this field.\u00a0For more information, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurofir.org\/bacchus\/resources\/introduction-to-the-bacchus-best-practice-guide-for-health-claims\/\">click here<\/a> &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>As part of the BACCHUS Best\u00a0practice\u00a0guidelines\u00a0for\u00a0health\u00a0claims,\u00a0guidance will be provided for <strong>human dietary intervention study design<\/strong>, specific to the category of health claim sought.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ebasis.eurofir.org\">eBASIS<\/a><\/strong> is an internationally recognised comprehensive database, providing up-to-date coherent and validated scientific information on the composition and health benefits of bioactive compounds in foods. A user-friendly, efficient and flexible interface is provided for searching, extracting, and exporting the data, including the references. eBASIS includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unique combination of compositional data and biological effects<\/li>\n<li>Data linked to authoritative plant and plant-part lists<\/li>\n<li>Comprehensive coverage of plant bioactives<\/li>\n<li>Use of the LanguaL food description system<\/li>\n<li>Data from over 1000 peer reviewed publications, forming 36,000 data points, covering 750 compounds, 263 plants and 3 animals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> The <strong>eBasis-Creme Global Exposure Interface<\/strong>\u00a0enables assessment of foods and bioactive compound intakes of adults in the UK, Ireland and Spain to determine whether quantities of foods or compounds required for the claimed effect are consumed at present are realistically achievable within current dietary habits; a requirement for a health claim.<\/p>\n<p>For more information,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bacchus.cremeglobal.com\/bacchus\/\">click here<\/a>\u00a0&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Watching Brief<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p>This Watching Brief is the last of the project and, as such, draws together highlights from previous Watching Briefs as well as summarising developments from EFSA and the EC in the area of health claims regulation between January and July 2016. The abstracts from a number of relevant research publications relating to polyphenols and cardiovascular health have been included, comprising a mixture of randomised controlled trials, reviews and observational studies.
