A2003 Modular System Architecture Development | Technology Maturation | Alberts

PERSFO is bringing together two areas of technology, specifically connected food service providers and personalised nutrition services.

These systems have been developed in isolation and use different tools (e.g. web portals, apps) as well as underpinning data and knowledge rules. Initial work was to create an inventory of technologies available within PERSFO and map potential links and integration. Currently the first design version is being refined following the co-creation sessions. A revised version of the PERSFO architecture will be linked to the Quisper Server Platform and tested in late 2020.

Outcomes will inform content for the PERSFO platform that will be tested by users in 2021 (A2005). Based on results from this real-life intervention study, the PERSFO platform will be updated before being made available to the market. The PERSFO platform will be modular, capable of interacting with a range of APIs (application programming interface – a set of functions and procedures allowing apps to interact with operating system and other service), making it easier to incorporate other apps and support opt-in for gradual growth (e.g. developing further means of personalisation or addition of other food service providers).

Other architecture that might be developed in parallel include apps/ interfaces for consumers, where the platform cannot be integrated with existing systems, new data and knowledge rules for the generation of personalised dietary advice, and diagnostic tools (e.g. home-use biomarkers [e.g. fingerpick nutritional status]) that guide the advice provided. Newly developed tools will undergo small-scale testing with consumer focus groups.

Personalized and connected food service providers (PERSFO, Project ID 20291) has received funding from EIT Food, the innovation community on Food of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the EU, under Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
