Mechanisms of action

Work package 5 is exploring the mechanisms of action involved in the biological activity of polyphenols and peptides that are known to be active, testing  physiologically relevant metabolites as found in in vivo studies (and research in WP4), and assessing the activity of extracts with unknown but promising functional (health-related) activities.

The focus on assessing human metabolites of dietary polyphenols and biologically active peptides in a targeted range of biological assays is novel and innovative. In addition, where active compounds are found, combinations of polyphenols and peptides are being assessed for any interaction or synergy between these classes of bioactive compounds.
