New version of the Portuguese Food Composition Table and new website
A new version of the Portuguese Food Composition Table (TCA) was released and publicly presented during the 17th PortFIR Annual Meeting, held in Funchal, Madeira, on September 24th.
This version (V 7.0 – 2025) is the result of an update that includes 1372 foods (raw, cooked, and processed) with information on the content of 50 components/nutrients. In this new version, values for carotenoids in fruits and vegetables have been included: α-carotene, β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, lycopene, lutein, and zeaxanthin.
In addition to the introduction of 47 new foods, component contents were updated, food descriptions were reviewed, obsolete foods were removed, and values for edible portions were added and or reviewed.
New PortFIR website available
This TCA update is availabe at the new PortFIR website. This new website, easier to keep updated and with more intuitive navigation, presents the information previously available, as well as additional content. Besides the new look and the new version of TCA, it allows downloading, searching, and comparing food information data and also an improved version of the nutritional calculator – which allows the user to create their own recipes, meals, or food days.
We also added new information about the Monitaditivos – Monitoring program for food additives and food flavouring use and intake -, reporting its main actions and results. Additionally, the new site has more space for news and announcements of activities developed within the scope of PortFIR – including about the Working Groups, and also a brand new newsletter.
The objective of this new PortFIR website – with all its components – is to become a true food information hub, more dynamic and updated.
