Food and Nutrition Data Specialist
EuroFIR AISBL (www.eurofir.org) is a non-profit International Association based in Brussels with over 120 members that aims to support European food composition compiler organisations with data management and exploitation for food and nutrition research and policy.
We are seeking a food and nutrition data specialist who can contribute to the Association business and EU- or otherwise-funded projects. This post will be well-suited to a graduate in data science/computational sciences with an interest in food, nutrition, and health, or biological sciences with experience in computational data/computer sciences.
You must have a BSc in the relevant areas and MSc or equivalent with relevant experience or PhD.
You will need to have experience of handling and analysing large datasets and visualising complex information for both specialised and lay users. Experience in dietary modelling, personalised nutrition, and nutrition and health and natural language processing skills will be an advantage.
You must have good organisational skills, be able to work independently, and a demonstrable ability to collaborate with researchers from different disciplines (e.g., nutrition science, data science, ICT).

The following skills and knowledge are essential:
Data Analysis Skills: Proficiency in statistical analysis software such as R, Python (with libraries like Pandas, NumPy, and SciPy), or specialised software for nutritional data analysis.
Database Management: Familiarity with database management systems and data manipulation techniques for organising, storing, and retrieving large datasets.
Research Skills: Ability to critically evaluate scientific literature, design research studies, and analyse data from nutritional research studies.
Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication skills are necessary to present findings, write reports, and collaborate with other professionals in the field.
Attention to Detail: Precision and accuracy in handling and analysing data, as well as ensuring data quality and integrity.
The following skills and knowledge would be beneficial:
Nutrition Knowledge: A strong understanding of nutrition principles, food composition, dietary guidelines, and nutritional requirements for different populations.
Knowledge of Food Labelling Regulations: Understanding of EU food labelling laws and regulations, including nutrient content claims, health claims, and food labelling requirements.
The following experience would be beneficial:
Experience in Data Analysis: Prior experience in data analysis, preferably in a nutrition-related context, such as analysing dietary intake data, conducting nutritional assessments, or evaluating food consumption patterns.
Familiarity with Food Databases: Experience working with European food composition databases or other international databases with a range of user communities.
Research Experience: Experience working in research settings, conducting experiments, collecting data, and interpreting and presenting research findings.
