Positioning EuroFIR AISBL as a Thematic EOSC Node

Duration: 6 months, from 6 May 2026 to 6 November 2026

Coordinator: EuroFIR Food is coordinated by EuroFIR AISBL (Brussels, Belgium). The EOSC GRAVITY Cascading Calls and Financial Support to Third Parties (FSTP) are coordinated by the European Science Foundation (ESF), within the EOSC GRAVITY consortium led by the EOSC Association (EOSC-A).

Project Partners: The consortium consists of 2 partners from 2 countries – EuroFIR AISBL (Belgium), coordinator, and Premotec GmbH (Switzerland), technical partner.

Source of funding: EuroFIR Food is funded through the EOSC GRAVITY Preparatory Grants Open Call (cascading funding under the Horizon Europe project EOSC GRAVITY, Grant Agreement no. 101188045), as a lump-sum grant of €50,000.

AIM

Food and nutrition datasets remain underrepresented within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), despite their scientific and societal importance. This preparatory action aims to position EuroFIR AISBL as a future thematic Node within the EOSC Federation. The project will investigate EuroFIR’s governance, technical readiness, and FAIR alignment against EOSC Node requirements, including the EOSC Federation Handbook and the EOSC Interoperability Framework. It will define a clear service portfolio, map repositories and federating capabilities, and develop at least three high-level use cases demonstrating cross-domain interoperability with other EOSC Nodes in health, sustainability, and agriculture. A showcase plan and an EOSC Academy contribution matrix will further strengthen community engagement and capacity building. The main outcome will be a validated project charter defining EuroFIR’s value proposition, governance model, technical compliance pathway, and integration strategy, providing credible, evidence-based readiness for future EOSC Node enrolment.

Role of EuroFIR AISBL in EuroFIR Food

EuroFIR coordinates the project and is responsible for project coordination and management (project plan, milestone tracking, risk oversight, and liaison with EOSC governance bodies), stakeholder and community engagement (consultations with EOSC bodies, existing and emerging EOSC Nodes, and user communities in food, nutrition, and health), the development of scientific use cases, the draft plan for showcasing project results, and the contribution to the EOSC Academy (training materials, mentorship, best-practice guidance, and peer-to-peer knowledge exchange).
