Nutritics and the Life Climate Smart Chefs Project: Empowering Sustainable Menus with the Foodprint Tool

EuroFIR member Nutritics is a partner on a European Commission project which just launched a new, openaccess, carbon and water footprinting menu management tool Foodprint.
Life Climate Smart Chefs is a European project receiving funding from the LIFE Programme of the European Union. It aims to contribute to the development and implementation of the EU Climate Policy and the Farm to Fork (F2F) Strategy by actively involving chefs as promoters of low emission, nutritious and affordable diets, and to promote a mainstream debate on food as a key factor for climate change mitigation.

The Climate Smart Chefs project trained 160 chefs to reduce the environmental impact of their dishes by using the Foodprint digital tool to reformulate their recipes, while evaluating impact on cost and nutrition. The initiative analysed recipes from over 160 chefs, achieving an average reduction of 27.3% in greenhouse gas emissions and 24.7% in water usage per dish. A ‘Zero waste, more taste! 27 chefs’ secrets to reduce food waste” book was launched in addition to an openaccess version of Nutritics digital Foodprint carbon and water footprinting tool, developed and co-funded by the European Commission.
